International Blog Delurking Week 2014

Back in the olden days of the Internet, the first full week of January was declared International Delurking Week, and I still celebrate this ancient holiday. It runs this year from the 5th until the 12th, so you have seven days to slither out of the reading closet and check in with an “I’m here” comment.

It is fairly easy. Leave a comment in the comment section below admitting that you’re here. You can simply raise your hand and meekly admit that you’re here with a simple, one-word “here” comment; or you can proudly raise your hand and tell us all a bit about yourself (my preferred method); or… you can tell me your favourite type of cookie (see, I’m trying to make it easy for you by even providing a comment prompt).

The point is that I want to know about the people who read me, since there is a huge discrepancy between the number of readers in actuality and the number of readers I actually know are reading. Or a tongue-twister like that.

And that’s all you have to do to celebrate.

So (clears throat to nudge you along), who is here?

And just to answer my own question, I am partial to chocolate chip cookies.

* I make a badge every year to mark the occasion, and I give you full permission to right click and grab it for your very own.

I’m here! My favorite cookies are Oreos…because who can not love an Oreo. If I’m the one baking, it’s chocolate chip all the way.

Good morning!

Good morning. I am literally visiting for the first time today, but already know that I’ll be back. My husband and I are 18 months into our TTC journey. We’re about to move into some medicated cycles and I’m struggling with emotions of sadness and lack-of-control. Too much for an introductory post?? Well, I’ll end there, then. I’m so glad I’ve found you (and I already bookmarked the creme de la creme post!)

I’m still here! Reading religiously for close to five years. We spent over a decade TTC, did five IVF/FET cycles and are currently almost 30 weeks pg with our first (and quite possibly only) child. Your blog has inspired and eloped me more than you will ever know. Because of you, I’ve made connections with others in my shoes, without whom I would never have survived the last four years of treatments and loss.

In case no ones told you lately: what you do is important. Thank you.

Eloped = helped. Dang autocorrect!

I’m here and am partial to the Mel-created Tom Waits cookie.

G’day from Australia! I think I have only posted once or twice, although I do submit to LFCA fairly often. I started TTC with my partner using donor sperm (partner is also a woman) around 6 years ago, eventually conceiving our 4 and 2 year old sons through IVF. I found your blog almost as soon as we started trying, and I’ve never left! I love the feeling of community here, and it’s been a great resource for finding blogs of people going through the same thing as we were. A long overdue thanks for providing this space and community and your thoughtful and thought-provoking posts… also, my favourite cookies are ANZAC biscuits.

I’m here! Not strictly a lurker but don’t comment as often as I read. As for cookies, I’d probably have to say peanut butter chocolate chip.

9 Kate { 01.05.14 at 9:51 am }

Hello! I comment very rarely, but I’m here! My favorite cookie is whichever kind I happen to be eating at the time. This week I made chocolate peanut butter cookies.

I’m here! My commenting has slowed down a great deal over the holidays, but I never left. I promise! 🙂

I am here! I found your blog when we started IVF, after 3 cycles we have our twin boys! They were born at 33 weeks on December 7th and they came home from the NICU on December 30th and January 1st. Your blog has helped me feel like I am not alone. Thanks or what you do, my favorite cookie is chocolate chip with walnuts.

I’m here. Long time lurker from Columbus, Ohio. SAHM with two kiddos who just likes your blog but am not in the infertile category.

13 Jen { 01.05.14 at 11:17 am }

Hello! Happy 2014 Mel, with thanks for everything you do for this community (top of my list right now is the Creme de la creme which I am really enjoying). You made a place where we aren’t alone.

14 Colleen { 01.05.14 at 11:38 am }

Giving a meek: “I’m here!”… I stumbled across your blog a couple weeks ago through a link from another blogger to your amazing ALI blogroll. Now I check in every now and then! Fav cookie is oatmeal chocolate chip 🙂

15 Cherish { 01.05.14 at 11:41 am }

Here! Divorced for a year, always debating when to reveal my m/c and unexplained infertility to men I date, and a fan of oatmeal cookies with cinnamon or butterscotch chips.

16 GeekChic { 01.05.14 at 11:44 am }

*waves hello* I’m the odd child-free by choice reader (and occasional commenter). I read ALI blogs to attempt to understand the struggles of some of my friends so I don’t add to their pain.

As for cookies, my favourite is a chocolate chocolate chip wonder that our local deli creates. Very chocolately and no nuts!

17 Tigger { 01.05.14 at 11:54 am }

I’m here! I know I don’t blog much any more but I’m hoping to get back into it. Not that I have many readers, but you know…a place to put my thoughts. 😀

18 mikki { 01.05.14 at 1:06 pm }

Want to blog but don’t. Want to commit but rarely do that either!

19 Jone { 01.05.14 at 1:11 pm }

I came here through Nicole and Maggie and stayed.

20 Pepper { 01.05.14 at 1:25 pm }

I’m here. 🙂 My commenting has also slowed down but I’m still always reading. I’m also partial to chocolate chip cookies, but more frequently bake my second favorite oatmeal raisin (am in the midst of a batch right now, as a matter of fact) because my quirky husband doesn’t like chocolate.

21 Loren { 01.05.14 at 2:18 pm }

I’m here. I’m 36 and have a three year old son and we’re trying for #2. My husband was treated for lymphoma last year and is now infertile, so we’re trying IUI with frozen sperm, and will do IVF if the next cycle doesn’t work. I really appreciate your blog both in and of itself and as a clearinghouse for other IF blogs. I don’t have an IF blog myself, but maybe I’ll start one.

22 JustHeather { 01.05.14 at 2:51 pm }

I’m here!!! I found your blog a couple of years, about halfway through TTC our little boy, when a lady in an online group posted a link to one of your posts about the infertility thread and pomegranate. That article came when I needed it so much and has stuck with me ever since. (I keep meaning to buy some pomegranate colored thread, but forget the number when I’m actually at the store.) Thank you, Mel. You and your blog mean so much to me.

As for cookies…so many have said chocolate chip and now I can’t think of anything else. 😀

23 Jackie { 01.05.14 at 3:02 pm }

OK, why not? I am about as far from infertile as you can get, but it took my parents 13 years to conceive me so prior to having babies I was always terrified I would be. I love your blog round ups, cheering on the ladies trying so hard to get what I was so super lucky to come by easily. Thank you for being a touchstone.

24 magpie { 01.05.14 at 3:30 pm }

oh hi. i think i like cheese & crackers better than cookies.

25 Lori Lavender Luz { 01.05.14 at 3:38 pm }

Coming out of hiding in plain site to wave my hand 😉

26 Laurel Regan { 01.05.14 at 4:02 pm }

*waves*

Peanut butter chocolate chip cookies studded with M&Ms will do nicely for me!

27 Isabelle { 01.05.14 at 4:22 pm }

Hi! I read your blog every other day and occasionally comment. I would say… peanut butter cookies, although I actually prefer scones and bread pudding. 🙂

28 Mrs Thompson { 01.05.14 at 6:17 pm }

Here. (a lot)

… and I like oatmeal.

29 Kristin { 01.05.14 at 6:27 pm }

I’m here…and I LOVE chocolate chip crunch cookies!

30 Stacey { 01.05.14 at 6:28 pm }

I’m here! Now heading back to the laziness shadows…

31 Liz { 01.05.14 at 6:38 pm }

Here!! I’m fond of pfeffernusse, my family’s old recipe, which I haven’t made in years. They are rock-hard cookies that you have to soak in milk (or coffee – yum!) in order to eat.

32 Clare { 01.05.14 at 6:47 pm }

Still here.. 6+ years now I think, although for a couple years I kind of disappeared. I have time once again, and am loving reading your words again. Update: still in Italy, still love oatmeal cookies (raisin free!!!), still have POF, and 4 days into DE cycle five years after our last attempt… whee!!!

33 Aislinn { 01.05.14 at 7:57 pm }

I’m here! I’ve been reading for about two years now and I can’t tell you how much you have helped me over the years, especially with connecting with other bloggers through ICLW. Thank you so much for all you do!

I love my chocolate cream cheese cookies. They’re a random Pintrest find and they’ve been a hit every time I’ve made them, especially with my husband’s co-workers.

34 loribeth { 01.05.14 at 8:14 pm }

Still here (6-7+ years and counting…). 🙂 Coming up on 16 (!!) years since my only daughter’s stillbirth, and almost 13 years of consciously living childless/free after loss & infertility. I love cookies of all kinds, but chocolate chip would probably top the list. 🙂

35 Justine { 01.05.14 at 9:14 pm }

What’s a Tom Waits cookie? I’m still here, too, sort of like a bad penny, I guess. And my cookie preferences vary by season. Right now, gingerbread and pizzelle, but often chocolate chip. One day I am going to lurk in your kitchen while you make your famous ones. 😉

36 Tiara { 01.05.14 at 9:22 pm }

I’m here! But I think you know that 🙂 I want to echo another commenter & hope you know how important what you do here is.

& OMG how can I pick just 1 cookie. I love cookies!!!

37 a { 01.05.14 at 9:30 pm }

I’ve been lurking a little lately. But my favorite cookie is oatmeal chocolate chip. Or my mom’s butter cookies.

38 Amy { 01.05.14 at 9:31 pm }

Hi. New here. Just failed IUI cycle 2 and starting IVF journey (kicking and screaming the whole way). Like you, in DC area. Just bought Navigating the Land of If. Only in Chapter 1 and I think it is my new best friend. Thank you for doing what you do. I don’t feel so alone.

*There is a fantastic salty oat cookie on Smitten Kitchen that I fell hard for last Christmas.

39 Mali { 01.05.14 at 10:30 pm }

Still here. Three years and counting, though like Loribeth, I’ve been consciously not kidding for over ten years now.

Like Aussie Lucy, I also love ANZAC biscuits (translation to North Americans: cookies). They’re just as delicious uncooked as cooked, if I recall.

40 Jess { 01.05.14 at 11:20 pm }

I’ve been a longterm reader. I have switched blog names from time to time, but still here!

41 MrH { 01.05.14 at 11:34 pm }

Hi there,
I have been here for about four years. I rarely comment, though I do read. My favourite cookies are shortbread cookies. I don’t really like chocolate chip cookies, but I am resolving to rekindle that relationship in this upcoming year…

42 Sara-Lynn { 01.05.14 at 11:50 pm }

I am here. Reading and still blogging, even though I have crossed te threshold of infertility and am a new mom to two twin boys. This blog helps me stay connected and I just enjoy your writing style.

43 Lauren { 01.06.14 at 1:01 am }

I’m here! I think I found your blog during our original TTC journey back in 2010/2011, but I found my home at the time mainly in the message board world. I rediscovered it when I started blogging after we lost Noah this October. He was 20w, and had a fatal brain defect. I am so grateful for your corralling of this community.

44 Eliz@MirthandMotivation { 01.06.14 at 5:51 am }

I’m here! I love peanuts in cookies, on sandwiches, dry roasted and in a sauce. 🙂
Elizabeth

45 Eliz@PositiveKismet { 01.06.14 at 5:53 am }

Yes, this is me again and I am here! I visit you/BlogHer from both of my blogs, and I didn’t want to deprive my 2nd blog of the opportunity to say hi! TY! 🙂
Oh yeah, I like the same as above.
Elizabeth

46 Jen { 01.06.14 at 7:12 am }

I’m here! Been lurking since March, when I discovered you after my miscarriage. I really enjoy reading but am a terrible commenter! Also, I am currently addicted to Candy Crush, which I blame solely on you.

47 Cindy { 01.06.14 at 7:53 am }

I’m here 🙂 I’ve been lurking for a while now and thoroughly enjoy reading every post….esp the candy crush hints. I need lots of hints so keep ’em comin please.

Oh, and I adore White Chocolate & Macadamia cookies.
(And as another Aussie I do love a good ANZAC biscuit too! )

48 Northern Star { 01.06.14 at 10:11 am }

Here! Hi! Favourite cookie … Chocolate chip, using the recipe from Joy of Cooking!

49 Amy { 01.06.14 at 10:37 am }

Here! Love this idea, stealing it for my blog! It’s shocking how many readers are lurking!

50 Sue { 01.06.14 at 10:43 am }

Hi 🙂 I discovered you last week. I’m 35, TTC for 7 months and starting to consider the unhappy idea we may need to seek help to conceive. I like samoa girl scout cookies, although I have to say that the current recipe doesn’t taste the same as I remember as a child.
