NaComLeavMo
IMPORTANT: This list is no longer open. The current list can be found here: IComLeavWe.
Blog writing for a month is all good and fine; but what about the other side of blogging–the comment leaving? Comment leaving is an integral part of blogging. Without comments, blog posts are as flat as…Flat Stanley. Blogging is a conversation.
Therefore, in honour of my own blogoversary (since I am so modest. Wait, and because community and conversations are very important to me and a huge reason why I write my blog), I am conducting NaComLeavMo–National Comment Leaving Month (the national refers to wherever you are reading) from May 25th to June 25th. A full month of intense comment leaving.

The list is now closed–12:01 a.m. Sunday, May 25th. Let the commenting commence!
This is how it works:
(1) leave a comment below saying you would like to participate in NaComLeavMo. Leave your blog name and url. I will add you soon after to the list of participants above. Everyone is invited to join NaComLeavMo (you do not have to ask because the answer is yes. It is always yes. It is open to everyone in this whole huge blogosphere). My goal is actually to get non-IF/adoption/loss blogs participating too and get conversations going between different corners of the blogosphere. Therefore, if you have non-IF blogging friends or straddle two communities, encourage them to join along too. But be forewarned, there will be blogs on the list that are about knitting or politics or cooking, but there will probably be blogs with babies or children as well.
If you do not have a blog, you can technically still participate in NaComLeavMo. When you leave your comment, just state that you don’t have a blog but will be participating. Um…though this may be a good week to start that blog you’ve always been meaning to start.
(2) mark somewhere on your calendar that you are going to leave 5 comments a day and return one comment a day between May 25 and June 25. In other words, you will do your normal blog reading, but you will make sure that you leave at least 5 comments a day and regardless of how many comments you usually receive, you will return at least 1 comment by going to a commentor’s blog and leaving a comment there. If you do not have any comments that day (perhaps you didn’t write a new post or your blog falls into a strange, other-worldly commentless abyss), simply jump to the participant’s list below and pick a new blog and leave a comment.
New people who have never commented
on your blog before take precedence over usual commentors. All commenting is done on the honour system–if you tell me you left the requisite amount of comments each day, I’m going to believe you. Try to spread your comments around–it’s okay to comment on the same person’s blog each day, but it’s better to hit new ones continuously. Please try to visit once all of the blogs listed on the participant’s list at some point during the course of the month. Even if you don’t leave a comment.
(3) those who wish to step up the commenting and enter the wall of honour, leave a comment on every NaComLeavMo participating blog at least once a week (in other words, if there are 100 blogs on the participant’s list below, you would click down the list once a week and leave a comment on each one). These bloggers are called Iron Commentors and they will be placed on the wall of honour at the end of NaComLeavMo. You must do this once a week (4 times during the month) in order to get on the wall of honour, though even if you only do it once, let me know.
(4) take the code listed here back to your blog and place it somewhere on the sidebar or in an easily accessible post. Encourage your readers to participate in NaComLeavMo. The more, the merrier. Please leave this code up throughout NaComLeavMo because it gives people easy access to the participant’s list.
(5) check in with me on June 20th (put that on a calendar too, though there will be a reminder that day in the Roundup) to let me know if you’re on track for completing NaComLeavMo. When you email me at the towncriers@gmail.com, I will send you the code for the completed NaComLeavMo icon or the Iron Commentor icon. If you don’t check in, I won’t know if you completed NaComLeavMo and I won’t move you to the final list of participants. So…check in that weekend.
(6) if you miss a day, you can double up your comment leaving (10 comments and 2 returns) the next day. If you miss three days, triple your comment leaving when you return, so on and so on.
(7) the participant’s list closes on May 24th at midnight EST. You can still do NaComLeavMo, but you can’t add your blog to the list. Therefore, get the word out now to your readers and let’s see how many people we can get participating.

Oh yes count me in! I love commenting and comments
Hm… I usually leave way more than that number of comments a day. Unless I am swamped for a week and then my reader overflows… Ok, let me think about it. I assume I have until it starts to join, no?
sounds wonderful, love the namw. but I know I’ll be gone for a week and offline (the horror!). now I’m going to have like a zillion things to read when I return…

I desperately need more motivation to comment. This seems like just the thing to do it. Sign me up!
Side note: The word verification badness seems to have gotten better. Yay!
Please excuse my lack of proper punctuation in my above comment. I guess my excitement just got me carried away and I forgot all about the proper use of question marks and exclamation points. So sorry.
Count me in, Mel! I need to do better on my commenting anyway so this will be the kick in the pants I need 🙂
I’ll do it! I do that just about every day anyway!
It’s on… like white on rice!

I try to leave comments everyday but don’t get many new ones – so I hope to find some new blogs to read and find some new comments too!
I’m in. Funny, I just wrote a big post about how I was short in the comments lately. Not the breezy, “thinking of you!” comments, but comments of substance.
TheNewLifeOfNancy (http://thenewlifeofnancy.blogspot.com)
I love commenting too, and i love comments, giving and receiving – it’s what it’s all about…. i want to make it to the “iron commenter” status, because i will never be an “iron man”…all that exercise in one day?
PS – i’m currently unemployed and therefore have lots o’ time on my hands.
Oh why not.
Count me in – I up for a new challenge .I love visiting new blogs and I love new visitors -win win
