Circle Time: The Show and Tell Weekly Thread

Show and Tell is wasted on elementary schoolers. Join several dozen bloggers weekly to show off an item, tell a story, and get the attention of the class. In other words, this is Show and Tell 2.0. Everyone is welcome to join, even if you have never posted before and just found out about Show and Tell for the first time today. So yank out a photo of the worst bridesmaid’s dress you ever wore and tell us the story; show off the homemade soup you cooked last night; or tell us all about the scarf you made for your first knitting project. Details on how to participate are located at the bottom of this post.

Let’s begin.

Today we held what Mr. Badger calls “the annual 5 Jews and a Catholic” tree trimming. This year, they were smarter and put up the lights BEFORE we arrived so they didn’t have two preschoolers screaming, “faster, Mr. Badger, faaaaaaaaaaaaster!” Apparently, screaming at someone while they are untangling yards and yards of lights is frazzling.

Possibly the best ornament is the one the ChickieNob made. It was rather phallic. Unfortunately, what you can’t see from this photo is that the tree branch is poking out of the paper directly above two circles and a bunch of squiggles that strongly resemble a scrotal sac.

The joy of Christmas–two Jews and a tree

Want to bring something to Show and Tell?
  • If you would like to join circle time and show something to the class, simply post each Saturday night (or earlier in the week or on Monday if you can’t do the weekend), hopefully including a picture if possible, and telling us about your item. It can be anything–a photo from a trip, a picture of the dress you bought this week, a random image from an old yearbook showing a person you miss. It doesn’t need to contain a picture if you can’t get a picture–you can simply tell a story about a single item. The list opens every Saturday night and closes on Tuesday night.
  • You must mention Show and Tell and include a link back to this post in your post so people can find the rest of the class. This spreads new readership around through the list. This is now required.
  • Label your post “Show and Tell” each week and then come back here and add the permalink for the post via the Mr. Linky feature (not your blog’s main url–use the permalink for your specific Show and Tell post).
  • Oh, and then the point is that you click through all of your classmates and see what they are showing this week. And everyone loves a good “ooooh” and “aaaah” and to be queen (or king) of the playground for five minutes so leave them a comment if you can.
  • Did you post a link and now it’s missing?: I reserve the right to delete any links that are not leading to a Show and Tell post or are the blogging equivalent of a spitball.

“Unfortunately, what you can’t see from this photo is that the tree branch is poking out of the paper directly above two circles and a bunch of squiggles that strongly resemble a scrotal sac”

Ah – two Jews and a Christmas tree. Now – my holiday season is officially underway!!!

5 Cassandra { 12.13.08 at 10:37 pm }

As someone who was raised with Christmas but has celebrated less and less each year to be consistent with the Judaism practiced in our home, it’s so interesting to see you embracing (certain aspects of) the holiday.

Do you enjoy the messiah-related carols, or just the more secular ones?

Yeah, I’m laughing pretty hard at the explanation of chickinobs ornament.

7 Another Dreamer { 12.13.08 at 11:37 pm }

LOL about the phallic ornament. Nice tree 🙂

ChickieNob's ornament- Oh my! LOL! So funny. It's a very pretty tree.

And it's quite late now and long past when I should be using a computer- hence why I couldn't spell my own blog name when I posted my Show & Tell link. Time for bed now.. Night!

what a lovely tree and what a great way to take part in putting up a tree when you don’t do that yourself!! I too have posted pictures of my tree.

I LOVE the ornaments, go ChickieNob! I am so glad you love Christmas, thats very cool. I am not your traditonal Christmas celebrater now, but grew up with it and LOVE this time of year, nothing like it.

13 MrsSpock { 12.14.08 at 10:49 am }

Hm. Penis ornament. Different, different…

14 JamieD { 12.14.08 at 11:51 am }

Five Jews and a Catholic – I love it!

Oh, I love Christmas trees. As soon as I convince Hubby to let me leave it up and decorate it for all seasons I’m doing it!

15 loribeth { 12.14.08 at 4:39 pm }

Great looking tree! Mine is also on my blog.

16 *T* { 12.14.08 at 7:01 pm }

What a beautiful tree. Sounds like a great day all around! 🙂

17 Wordgirl { 12.14.08 at 7:28 pm }

I LOVE the pictures — I told the story to G about the bong trees– about how it encapsulates some of that wonder of x-mas — which is sort of captivating — we like to think of xmas as the celebration of love, kindness and way too many cookies…

I so wish I could see a close-up of the phallic ornament — once my brother had a tree that was all phallic ornaments…ah, but that’s another christmas tale….

18 Kristine { 12.14.08 at 8:00 pm }

I love everything about your post this week! lol

As an interfaith house that celebrates Christmas because of my background it always makes me feel better to see other Jews enjoying the celebrations.

19 Bean { 12.15.08 at 7:23 am }

Love the photo of you and LJ. And the title — “The joy of Christmas–two Jews and a tree” — had me laughing out loud! What fun.
