#Microblog Monday 193: The Accomplishment Jar
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I read a very old post and I loved the idea, so I’m throwing it out here. An accomplishment box. It’s impossible to believe that you’re not getting stuff done when you’re faced with a clear jar filled with tiny slips of paper detailing what you’ve done.
The idea is that when you feel good — when you check something big off your list or get praise at work — you write it on a slip of paper and drop it in the jar. It’s not just helpful when you’re working on your resume down the road; it’s there when you’re having a crap day and feeling like you’re not achieving anything. You can look in the jar and have hard-and-fast proof that it’s your mood talking and not reality.
My most recent slips would be finishing an animation for work and donating the baby stuff.
What’s going on your slip?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

I quite like that idea! Most recently, organising cleaners and a new supermarket loyalty card for the in-laws, and if fun things count too, then doing some photography homework, and writing three blog posts for today as well.
My most recents slips would be…getting rugs for the kitchen, and selling the things we no longer needed after remodel.
I’m starting this today. Because I seriously need it for motivation.
Most recent slips would include getting my new driver’s license, the car registered, lining up interviews, surviving surgery, unpacking….
Looks like a great idea. For me it would be the categorizing and tagging the pictures I have taken so far 🙂
We do something kinda similar in our household: a “good things” jar. Any time something good happens — whether it’s a victory at trial for me, a “compliment card” received by one of my sons at school, an especially fun outing — we write it on a small slip of paper and put it in a designated mason jar. The idea is to do this all year long and then read all the good things on New Year’s Eve.
My biggest accomplishment of late was clearing off a counter in my kitchen that has had some degree of misplaced items/clutter on it for A YEAR, since we moved in to this house. It actually only took about 20 minutes, but it makes a huge difference in how our kitchen looks, so I’m proud. 🙂
My slip for today would include:
* getting extra points on my grocery points card.
* picking up all the greeting cards I need for the next several weeks (M-Day, two birthdays & a wedding)
* winning gift cards for two dozen cupcakes in a raffle to support a friend’s charity
* and not losing my cool when my laptop crashed not just once but twice this weekend… the first time I actually managed to get it started again myself; the second time I called in the cavalry (i.e., my sister’s techie boyfriend). 😉 I also updated several programs and uninstalled a couple of old ones I no longer use, all by my little old self. 😉
A really interesting alternative to crossing things off a to-do list. My most recent would be emailing my wedding venue to ask her about the photos that were missing from my thumb drive, calling the corporate office of my apartment complex (a necessary evil to deal with a neighbor), and cooking an actual homemade dinner. It still doesn’t feel like much, but I’m taking it easy today.
Oooh…finishing an animation? Sounds awesome!
I would not spend time tracking this. I would just do it and tuck the satisfaction away in my memory.
Oooh, I love this. I need it for when my mood lies to me (and maybe as motivation for when my mood is just blahhhh and I see the empty jar and it kicks my ass into action). I think my slips today are 1) getting in early to copy things, 2) updating my grade book, 3) setting up summer tutoring with a student’s mom, 3) helping a student set up community service so he can return to school quicker after a disciplinary mishap, 4) tackling an awkward conversation with a coworker who I’m not sure is trustworthy anymore for some reason. Ugh on that one, but I did it instead of avoiding, so a slip it is!
Donating the baby stuff deserves to be an extra big, extra heavy weight paper slip.
Getting my grades in! That nearly kills me every semester. Whew! Now to rest and tackle some other things, so I can write more slips!
Since there’s depression & anxiety on all sides of our family which is definitely fueled by negative thoughts, I try to always consciously make a big deal of every little achievement for myself, my husband, & my kids to keep us out of that self-defeating rut. It can be as big as me writing something I love or my daughter getting into the talent show or as “small” as exercising an extra day or someone not-overreacting to something dumb like something spilling.
