#Microblog Monday 262: Last Day of Summer
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I guess fall doesn’t technically begin until September 23rd, but Labour Day always feels like the last day of summer. Maybe it’s because school begins this week or because people expect vacations to wrap up by this evening. But it feels like the last day of summer.
The school supplies are purchased. The pencils are sharpened. The suitcases are packed away for a little bit.
What are you looking forward to this fall?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

Okay, I’m going to take your question and apply it to spring too, of course! Spring officially begins on 1 September here (and in Australia too), and there have been signs for the last few weeks. Daffodils are in full bloom, Friday was the Cancer Society’s annual appeal called Daffodil day, and blossoms are appearing. Spring is the precursor to summer and summer holidays. It seems weird to have the beginning of school or the working year in a month that we see as the beginning of the end of the year.
Having moved from a state with no true seasons to one with seasons, I’m still enthralled by the crisp, freshness of fall. I look forward to the Apple farm and the trees turning and the early days of boots and sweater weather. Alas, fall here is often very short, in terms of the nice weather, so it’s important to enjoy it while it’s here!
I always seem to get a slew of stuff in my FB feed about how it’s not fall yet around mid-August, but I always have linked my start of the season to the beginning of the school year (schools started mid-August here). As far as I’m concerned, yes, fall technically starts mid/late September but school = fall to me.
I’m looking forward to fall pumpkins, apple cider, cinnamon spice blends, tall boots, and light scarves. Yes, I am super basic. Makes me happy though ;).
My big kids started school last week, and the little one still has a week before her school starts. I’m looking forward to comfortable weather (I do not like heat and humidity!), going apple picking (yay for fresh honeycrisps), and the leaves starting to change colors.
I’ve always loved the start of the school year, even when I was teaching. I’m excited by change and growth, beginnings and goals, that are all part of the back-to-school season. I love the colors of fall and the styles–not that I’m into fashion, but I prefer long pants and sweaters to shorts and tank-tops.
I am in denial that summer is almost over. (Didn’t it just get started??) 🙁 I do enjoy the quieter malls & stores once everyone gets back to school, though (lol), and the beautiful fall colours, later in September/October. I’m once again looking forward to a trip west in October to see a concert with my sister (Elton John this year vs Paul McCartney last year) & having (Canadian) Thanksgiving with my family. And a little later in the fall (mid-November), I’m looking forward to the arrival of our first great-nephew! 🙂
My son has been back in school for 4 weeks, 3 weeks for me. Summer “ended” weeks ago here, but I’m looking forward to cooler temps, autumn leaves, and boots. 🙂
Summer is ending for us today, too. My big kid starts third grade and my little kid starts kindergarten tomorrow. For the first time in over 8 years, I will be alone during the day. I’m excited for my kids as I know they will love their teachers and classes this year. But I can’t lie, I’m feeling sad this summer is over.
I am looking forward to cooler weather! And by that I don’t mean the boots-and-sweaters weather that most folks associate with fall: I’m just hoping for daytime highs under 100 degrees.
Living in Phoenix is weird. The weather stays hot long into fall (it’s been 100 degrees for the high temp on Halloween lots of times in the 20-ish years I’ve lived here), and yet kids return to school earlier than most places. (My sons started back on August 6 this year, and starts between the last week of July and mid-August are common for K-12 and our universities.)
I always feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the country this time of year. 😉
Cooler weather! And, yes, I see Labor Day as the official end of summer too.
PS Sharing a MM post today that I forgot a couple weeks ago!
Every season I try hard to experience all that is particularly special about that one season. Fall definitely is my favorite. Just the foliage alone would be enough for me. We go to the State Fair. I love hayrides, Halloween, and Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for the whole year: Football, great food, and the Macy’s parade (that all of my kids refuse to watch with me). It’s like the holiday was made with me in mind.
I love summer so, I’m really not looking forward to fall. And, fall brings all the “hard” days. I guess I’d have to say football but since it looks like we’re not even going to have fantasy football at work this year I’m even a little “meh” about that.
I’m so excited because I get to go to New Orleans for work early in the Fall. Woohoo!
But typically, Fall makes me sad. Spring and summer (my faves) are now so. far. away.
We’re heading to the US to visit my family next month! We are excited!!! So much beach time and (Halloween) junk food to eat!
