#Microblog Monday 270: Halloween Motivation

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Halloween costume motivation lingered at a strong zero throughout the month of October. Back in September, I entertained the idea of going as Random Party Guest at Downton Abbey, but I never bought or made the dress, and now I cannot imagine sitting around outside in thin material in order to celebrate a holiday.

I need a costume that is essentially my pyjamas. Like a onesie but not a onesie because those look hard to pee in. So… my pyjamas. I need to go out as a Person About to Go to Bed.

Are you dressing up this week? What are you going as?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

You could be a VSCO girl. It’s very comfy, although people may not recognize that you’re in costume. You will need the following: an oversized shirt (or sweatshirt); shorts (that are shorter than the shirt) or leggings; Crocs, Vans, or Birkenstocks, scrunchies and those spiral bracelet/hair ties that look like phone cords; a puka shell necklace; and a Hydro flask. And you have to say “and I oop” and “sksksksksk” all the time. The internet is great for inspiration!

To the above comment: LOVE IT! My 13 year old daughter dressed as a VSCO girl at an event the other day. I think it’s an idiotic fad and I didn’t think anyone who isn’t a girl between 11 & 17 would know what one was but it is so easy to put together. She had most of the stuff and we faked the rest. (Not buying a 13 year old an $80 water bottle.) For me, I did a dia de los muertos skeleton the other day. I’m still trying to find my old jester costume that I haven’t seen in years (basically what I am all year…). Last night we went to a trunk or treat and I just did one eye black & one orange and wore orange and black and a corny autumn vest that an old friend of mine gave me years ago that I’ll find any excuse to wear every September – November.

OK, someone please tell me I am not the only person here who had to look up “VSCO girl”…!

I have not dressed up in years… I like the IDEA of dressing up, but all the thought & work that has to go into putting together a costume makes me tired just thinking about it. I guess I’m lazy, lol. I did have a Halloweeen-themed fascinator that I used to wear when I handed out candy at the door of our house. But we have not had any trick or treaters in our building since we moved into our condo (even though there are children living here) — although we usually buy a bag of candy, just in case (that we wind up eating ourselves, lol). Perhaps once we have some great-nieces & nephews here, their parents will bring them over on Halloween. (I hope so!)

I am famous in these parts for being pajama girl every year. #noeffort

Except for the shorts (brrrr….) the VSCO girl is a good idea, too.

I feel like a real killjoy every year at this time, but I am not a fan of Halloween and don’t dress up unless absolutely necessary. My office makes a big deal out of it every year, even having a costume contest, and for the past few years, I have made a point of having something scheduled requiring me to dress in normal business attire or working from home, in order to avoid the whole thing.

See, I told you: killjoy.

What Sharon said. I am thankful that I am teaching class during our office costume contest.

PJs sound like a good idea to me. Then, you can just go straight to bed. Halloween is not my thing, so I’m just looking forward to an early bedtime.

I just saw a clip from a Friends’ episode the other day, in which Rachel wore a beautiful dress she’d bought to a Halloween party, going as “a woman who bought a nice dress and wants to wear it.” So wear your PJs, and have fun.

Halloween will pass without notice here in my house, as it always does.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I have dressed up as an adult. It’s so much work. It’s just really not my thing. I have a cool witch costume and Sally from Nightmare before Christmas. But it feels like too much work.

I like Halloween! I’d rather see the kids dressed up than dress up myself. I go for the casual costume, just a few accessories, like a witches hat, or cat ears or something. Keeping it simple makes it easy, fun and not overwhelming. I kinda like to match my kids and have a family theme (again: CASUAL for the adults) they are winnie the pooh and tigger this year, same as last year which is good because we’re all overwhelmed with life at the moment. A neighbor gave us an infant owl costume for the baby, yellow rabbit ears for my husband and paper piglet ears for me, I’ll also wear a pink shirt. EASY.

I wanted to add that I actually did wear a variation on your idea to a Halloween dance one year when I was in university. I wore PJs & a bathrobe with big fuzzy slippers on my feet, put my hair up in curlers & cold cream on my face. And a teddy bear under my arm. Voila, a costume!! lol
