#Microblog Monday 281: Contronyms
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I just learned the greatest term: Contronym! They are words that are their own opposite. For example, “cleave,” which can mean both split apart or cling to.
Mental Floss rounded up a long list of contronyms, but beyond that, they also rounded up a list of synonyms for contronyms: “auto-antonym, antagonym, enantiodrome, self-antonym, antilogy and Janus word.”
This was my fun find for the week. What have you found on the internet?

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

That is so interesting, Mel! Never heard about it. Internet gives us loads of things to find out 🙂
Haven’t found anything fun like that this week, but I did find a lovely korma curry recipe tonight, which we devoured for dinner. Vegetarian too.
Not going to lie: Except for business, I try to avoid the Internet. Too much noise. Too much clutter. Too much bullshit. My husband is intrigued with videos. He did show me something interesting the other day. My daughter loves pancakes. This chef (I’m thinking she’s a pastry chef) makes beautiful pancakes that are colored like cartoon versions of pizza, characters etc. I don’t know that I could replicate it but she’s amazing.
My head hurts after reading that. 😀 That’s so interesting! The best thing I found was a pumpkin chili recipe (which was made and was delicious!).
An amazing deal on a very cool blender for the smoothies we like to make. I have never loved an appliance more.
That is so cool! I never thought of that, that CLEAVE means two opposite things. I love the term “contranymns.” My grandma would have loved that; she probably would have made a whole listing of them. I’ve been looking up neat places to go on the Olympic Peninsula on Pinterest, and laundry room shelving solutions. One more exciting than the other!
What did I find? I had to think on that for a minute. I was super excited that Lainey Lui wore a kickass dress to the Golden Globes and the dress was picked up by the other gossipy sites as one of the best-dressed. Two reasons why it was excited – Lainey was excited that the dress was designed by Canadian Indigenous fashion designer Lesley Hampton and got attention. I was excited because I’m a total Lainey Gossip fangirl having been turned onto the site by Jjiraffe a few years ago.
That’s a great find! And many of the words on that list are surprising to me (dust!).
Checking out what others found. Can’t think of anything new and cool I found. I guess I stuck to my beaten paths.
