#Microblog Monday 305: Playing Alone

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

I play a lot of solitaire. (Actually, the ChickieNob and I both play solitaire side-by-side, so we can talk during it, but it’s obviously a solo game.) So I was totally excited with the idea that there are dozens of games—beyond cards—that you could play solo.

Looking at our shelves, the Sherlock Holmes game is easy to play via Zoom, but you could also play it alone. (And like the article says, it states 1 – 8 players. I never noticed that before.) You could play both hands in Yahtzee. (Much easier to do than a game such as Scrabble where you’d see the letters in the other hand.) I’m trying to compile a list, or look at the games and reimagine them with slightly different rules in order to play them alone.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

I used to watch my dad play solitaire all the time. I played a lot in the infancy of computers, because there were so many games! My dad also used to play a game he called “This Guy” – he would deal 6 hands of 5 Card Draw and play poker against himself (with no betting). (The name comes from the play – This Guy draws 2 cards. This Guy won this hand.)

I can’t believe I haven’t taught my kid how to play solitaire…

I’ve never been much for computer games, but I AM rather addicted to Spider Solitaire (& have played other forms of solitaire as well).

I love playing solitaire. I’ve played it since I was a kiddo. Lately, though, since COVID lockdown, I’ve been addicted to these crazy puzzle games on my phone. I can’t stop!

I used to play a lot of computer solitaire as a kid. I should teach E.

I put Wordscapes on my phone solely to get me to stop scrolling the news for the latest COVID-Trump madness and it worked for a bit. Maybe I should add solitaire (my favourite is spider solitaire).

Ooops! The first Separate Life linky thing goes to the wrong link. Sorry!

I am not much of a card or board game player, but I have played a lot of solitaire since I was a kid, and was addicted to Spider Solitaire on my PC in the past.

And, like Chandra Lynn, these days I get addicted to puzzle games on my phone, or to Candy Crush (thanks a lot Mel!) which I tend to do while I am binge-watching a series – although every so often I decide to wean myself off and stop for months at a time!

I used to play solitaire all the time, and I do enjoy that game when your computer loses wifi and you have to make the T-Rex jump. Tetris was super fun to play by myself. I don’t really play other solo games, except maybe memory? You can make that a challenge for yourself and no other players. I have an insane collection of memory games (film! flowers! nature! Acadia National Park!). I find myself doing more analog games than phone/computer games. Jigsaw puzzles are good ones for me, and word searches. I love a good word search. Now I’m wondering what the heck Spider Solitaire is!
