#Microblog Monday 348: Ice Cream Road Trip

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Ísbíltúr is the Icelandic word for the act of jumping in the car and driving around until you stop for ice cream.

It all clicks into place—I am clearly Icelandic at heart.

We also walk to get ice cream, which makes it exercise more than ice cream eating, and it’s not always ice cream. Sometimes it’s a gelati. But driving to get ice cream takes up a lot of my mental energy. As well it should.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts that are connected to businesses or are sponsored post.

I love that! I’m a big ice cream fan. Though I never go out just for ice cream. Maybe I should?

Clearly, you need to visit my home province of Manitoba. 😉 Canada has the largest Icelandic population outside of Iceland, and most of it is in Manitoba, particularly in & around the community of Gimli, north of Winnipeg on Lake Winnipeg. They have an annual Icelandic festival.

When we were kids (and sometimes even still, especially when visiting my parents) we’d all hop in the car & go for a drive, sometimes just for the sake of going for a drive but also sometimes with the express purpose of going for ice cream. My grandfather would take my sister & me and the cousins out into the country where we’d look for deer in the fields. And the trip would always end with a stop at the local Dairy Whirl. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever left the house in pursuit of ice cream. Maybe, next weekend?

So many great memories surrounding ice cream. My Dad used to drive us around in pursuit of the ice cream truck. I remember a few times the guy would be pulling away as we neared so dad would just stalk him until he stopped at a new location. Once either Dad couldn’t find one or lost sight of the guy so he finally just gave up and took us to Carvel. xo (Obviously returning home ice creamless was never an option.)

Driving around until you stop for ice cream… Yes! Although it has to be warmer for me. Then I will go in the hunt for vanilla custard, and Carmel Caribou. Nom nom
