856th Friday Blog Roundup

Our county has returned to its mask mandate. Most of us never stopped wearing masks, so the news was met with more of a shrug than anything else. Last week, we wore masks by choice. This week, we wear masks because we’re told to wear masks. In the end, we wear masks.

But here is the thing: No one can tell that you are slowly eating a Wilhelmina mint behind that mask. It’s just your delicious, little secret.

Secret mint consumers, unite.

Stop procrastinating. Go make your backups. Don’t have regrets.

Seriously. Stop what you’re doing for a moment. It will take you fifteen minutes, tops. But you will have peace of mind for days and days. It’s the gift to yourself that keeps on giving.

As always, add any new thoughts to the Friday Backup post and peruse new comments in order to find out about methods, plug-ins, and devices that help you quickly back up your data and accounts.

And now the blogs…

But first, second helpings of the posts that appeared in the open comment thread last week. In order to read the description before clicking over, please return to the open thread:

Okay, now my choices this week.

No Kidding in NZ recounts a conversation she had with someone asking why she didn’t have kids. She writes: “In glorious hindsight, as I write this, I wish I’d just said that it doesn’t really matter whether I wanted children or not, because the outcome is the same.” It’s the push and pull between how much you tell, especially with someone you don’t know well.

Lastly, Infertile Phoenix ties together infertility and the pandemic, reminding people of everything they knew 18 months into infertility and how we can apply that to the exhaustion we’re feeling 18 month into COVID-19. There are a lot of similarities in the two events: “I felt lonely, sad, confused, frustrated, devastated, and angry. I was isolated from my peer group.” So true—and it won’t be like this forever. In some still-unknown way, it will be different.

The roundup to the Roundup: The masks that never left are back. Your weekly backup nudge. And lots of great posts to read. So what did you find this week? Please use a permalink to the blog post (written between July 30 – August 6) and not the blog’s main url. Not understanding why I’m asking you what you found this week? Secret mint eating! That made me smile and wonder what people are doing behind their masks. Not sure how to process the return the masks. Clearly we’re headed for another year (year two? year three?) of this pandemic, but I haven’t fully acknowledged that yet.

When we were at the library a couple weeks ago, my child gave an entire demonstration of how she would be able to eat a Blow-pop in school with her mask on.

We are secret mint eaters too! Our county and state and not mandating yet but we have never stopped. And I say “yet” with hope but no real belief it will happen. Everything is so divided. My kids’ school is only recommending masking in the fall. How are we here? Alllllll the health experts say kids should mask indoors but around here it’s apparently not something we do. I feel like this is never ending and I’m so anxious for my kids.

Thank you for the mention! And thank you for your blog space! I appreciate this space where I can read comments from people across the country and the world and feel less alone (on many different topics). Thank you!! (I am also a secret mint consumer.)
