Closing My Rings

As I lay on my side, shivering under the blankets after my booster shot, all I could think about was that I had to close my rings.

Every day, my watch gives me three goals: a calorie-burning goal, an exercise-minutes goal, and a stand-up-and-move goal. These goals are all fairly simple to hit on a daily basis because I do yoga every morning and walk in the afternoon. I’ve hit these goals for over 260 days, and I was not going to let a freakin’ booster shot ruin everything.

I exercised through the first shot, and I exercised through the second shot, and I was going to exercise through the third shot if I had to lie on the floor and pretend to swim on the carpet for 20 minutes. (I’m not certain the watch would believe that I was in the water and give me credit, but in my feverish brain, this felt like a solid plan.)

I ended up getting up and walking in place with my eyes closed for ten minutes, the smallest goal you can set on the watch. I faced the bed just in case I fell over in the middle of it. It was torture, but I did it. And I won. I beat the booster shot that tried to make me break my ring-closing streak.

Not on my watch, booster shot, not on my watch.

This made my day! Great work Mel!! You are on such a long streak of nailing your goals! Love how you and the Chickie Nob walk around the world together.

Ha, I slipped up with my 2nd shot. I was on a months long daily exercise streak with my peloton app. I felt like crap for several days so I resorted to do a meditation class (hey it counts) but somehow missed one day. My streak was broken.

This made my day. I recently dropped my watch and the screen cracked. I was unreasonably upset about this. I stopped wearing it because just looking at it was like a big, flashing “FAIL.” And then I decided NO. Technology does not win. And I’m wearing it, cracked. But it did derail my streak of closing rings. Oh well. I can’t worry about everything.

FWIW, shivering = lots of exercise!

I wonder if there is more than one way to win? How much more or less of a win is it to say, “Today I am unwell and while my body restores itself I am going to honour my need to rest.”?

Oh dear, I have the same tendencies (my need to write a Microblog Mondays post, for example, which continues, and my insistence that it had to be eight sentences long for years, till I gave that up, and now don’t miss it!) But sometimes, eventually, Jen’s logic kicks in. Brava, Jen.

Whoa, those rings hold so much power! On one hand, that’s impressive that you closed your rings while feeling busted by the booster. But on the other, agree with Jen. But breaking the streak would bother me, too.
