Closing My Rings

I am a rule follower. If you tell me to close my fitness rings — no, if you even hint that it may be a good idea to close my fitness rings — I will close my fitness rings. This weekend, I hit 365 days in a row of closing all three rings, which means I started wearing the watch about 365 days ago.

I am really proud of myself. I mean, yes, I’m a rule follower, so I was going to hit this milestone. But a little over a year ago, I was barely exercising at all. And I went from morning yoga to morning yoga and afternoon walk with random dance or biking challenges thrown in for good measure. My thought is now, “How will I get my exercise in?” and that is a HUGE change for me. All because I put a band around my wrist that gives me a reminder that I need to close my fitness rings every day. Huge thank you to my sister for passing along her old watch and getting me moving.

Because my natural inclination is not to move or go outside. And while I still rarely go outside, I fight against my desire to sit and read 100% of the time every day.

It may be a little win, but it’s my win. With my sister’s help.

That sounds like a huge win, Mel! Congratulations!

I don’t have fitness tech stuff, nor am I much of a rule follower. But I do like to keep streaks going in my planner, and that’s what’s helped me.

That’s awesome! I so happy for you. Great job!

Whatever works! I’m glad it gets you moving.

I have long told my child that she does not need a fitbit or any other kind of fitness monitor, because I find obsessing about things like that to do more harm than good. But that’s me, and I like walking for exercise. And she’s a kid. When she’s an adult, who needs motivation, then I will happily buy her a gadget – but I don’t think she’ll need one.

Congrats! That is a great accomplishment. I have found my Apple watch to be very beneficial to my health as well. I have had it for a little more than a year. I haven’t been quite as compliant as you are to close my rings, but I try to now get my exercise ring closed 5-6 times per week. The standing goal is never a problem for me. I do like the visual reminder to get moving. Keep it up!

I have to admit that I have NO idea what “closing your rings” means. You mentioned a watch, so I’m assuming it has something to do with an Apple watch or Fitbit and tracking your fitness goals? At any rate, sounds like you accomplished something to be proud of!

Little wins are what keep us going. Without them, there wouldn’t be any big wins. So, Brava! (Though I’ll admit, I’m like Loribeth, I had to assume I knew what “closing your rings” meant!)
