#Microblog Monday 414: Judging the Book (Not by the Cover)
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

As someone who absolutely judges a book by its cover — I’m more likely not to read something I want to read if it has a bad cover than to read a book because it has a good cover — I thought this website is brilliant.
It gives you the first page or so of a book to read. If you like it, you can reveal the title and author so you can read it for real. If you don’t, you click “next book.”
Playing “guess the book” from the first page is also fun. It’s obvious when I’ve read the book or am familiar with the characters. (I see you, Mr. Phileas Fogg.) But I’ve been surprised sometimes to discover that a book I never thought about reading is actually quite engaging.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts connected to businesses or sponsored posts.

I’m more likely to pick a book up if I like the cover, even if I know nothing about it. (Got one of my favourite books that way – A Fine Balance). I don’t think I’d ever choose not to read a book because of a bad cover though, especially if I was already interested in reading it. It’s the beauty of e-books. It doesn’t matter what the cover is like!
I’m not sure I’ve ever picked up a book strictly because of the cover — although I do very much appreciate a well-designed cover! — or an original one — so many book covers these days seem to be carbon copies of each other…! But I HAVE looked at & bought books because they had a great, catchy title! One such book was “Angry Housewives Eating Bon-Bons” — which I *still* haven’t read yet, but couldn’t resist buying because of the title. 🙂 Likewise, “Sisters Behaving Badly” — I stumbled onto that one just before I was going to see MY sister for Christmas last year. It turned out to be a fun read with a bonus childless-not-by-choice angle.
Also — I am not at all into horror/zombies, etc., but I saw this book once in the store, and both title and cover as well as premise tickled my funnybone, lol. (I haven’t bought it, though — yet!)
