20,220 Pages
For the past two years (2020) and (2021), I set reading goals tied to the year — 20200 pages and 20210 pages. As of December 22nd (which is the date GoodReads last updated my reading stats), I hit 18,099 pages with 51 books, missing my 2022 goal of 20220 pages. I will probably finish one more book before the end of the year, but I will still be behind’s last year’s reading count.
I’m kind of shocked that I fell so far beneath last year’s page count (22,402 pages). But it is what it is.
I set 20230 as a goal for 2023.
My favourite things I’ve read this year:
- The Last Party (Clare Mackintosh)
- The Mirror Visitor Quartet (books 1 and 2) (Christelle Dabos)
- The Bullet That Missed (Richard Osman)
- The Other Side of Night (Adam Hamdy)
- Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone (Benjamin Stevenson)
- Upgrade (Blake Crouch)
- A Line To Kill (Anthony Horowitz)
- Murder Before Evensong (Richard Coles)
- How To Kill Your Family (Bella Mackie)
- Death and Croissants (Ian Moore)
- The Marlow Murder Club (Robert Thorogood)
- The Heights (Louise Candlish)
- The Appeal (Janice Hallett)
- Mouth to Mouth (Antoine Wilson)
- The Violence (Delilah Dawson)
What is on your list of favourite reads this year? (Feel free to list movies or television shows if books are not your thing.)

Lessons in Chemistry, The Last Flight, The Lies I Tell, Hello Molly!, Far From the Tree, We Are Not Like Them, and The Dead Romantics were my top picks, in no particular order.
If you’re still reading through December 31, you might yet make your goal: Goodreads gave me an alert with my books and pages read two weeks ago, but it has updated since when I have finished books.
As of today, I am at 102 books read and 35,784 pages read, according to Goodreads. One of my sons was musing on how many words read that might be (their reading program at school tracks this, and they get an award for hitting 1 million words read), but I don’t know.
I continue to be surprised at how many books you read that I’ve never even heard of! On your list of favorites, the only one I’ve read was Upgrade.
Here are a few of my favorites that I read in 2022. Only a few were actually released this year.
Infinite Country (Patricia Engel)
How the Word Is Passed (Clint Smith)
Once There Were Wolves (Charlotte McConaghy)
Project Hail Mary (Andy Weir)
An American Marriage (Tahari Jones)
Finding Me (Viola Davis)
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow (Gabrielle Zevin)
The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11 (Garrett M. Graff)
Remarkably Bright Creatures (Shelby Van Pelt)
A Woman Is No Man (Etaf Rum)
Lessons in Chemistry is also on my list, as well as The Bullet That Missed.
I failed pretty spectacularly at reading this year. Oh well.
I’ll be posting my own “Year in Books” post sometime in the next day or two 🙂 — I read 50 books for a total of 17,000+ pages this year. Not as many as I’d hoped, but not bad, and I still made my Goodreads Challenge goal. 🙂 Among my favourites:
“The Man Who Died Twice” and “The Bullet That Missed” by Richard Osman (books #2 & #3 in “The Thursday Murder Club” series).
“The Boys” by Ron Howard & Clint Howard.
“Sisters Behaving Badly” by Maddie Please.
“Run Towards the Danger” by Sarah Polley.
“My Ticket to Ride” by Janice Mitchell.
“Feeding My Mother” and “If I Knew Then” by Jann Arden.
“Rachel’s Holiday” and “Again Rachel” by Marian Keyes.
“Exit” by Belinda Bauer.
“Queen High” by C.J. Carey.
“Killers of a Certain Age” by Deanna Raybourn.
