#Microblog Monday 427: COVID Changes

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

When the National Zoo reopened after COVID closures, they went to a timed entrance system. They were free tickets, but you had to have a pass to walk through the park. I didn’t pay much attention because I rarely went to the zoo.

But it was in the news again last week because Eleanor Holmes Norton asked the zoo to remove the pass system to make it more accessible to people who don’t have a computer and can’t sign up for the digital pass. The zoo said no, though they pointed out that they reserve a certain amount of passes for people who show up without a pass because they couldn’t access them online.

I guess I didn’t realize to check on something like that because it feels like the world has moved on with restrictions despite COVID cases being where they are.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts connected to businesses or sponsored posts.

The art gallery where I have a membership introduced timed ticketing during the pandemic and has kept it. I didn’t bother booking in advance when we went there on my birthday… I figured it wouldn’t be very busy on a cold, grey Thursday morning in the middle of January, and I was right! 😉 But I have to say, I’m not sure I’ve noticed a lot of other restrictions/changes from the past three years that have stuck. I think all hospitals and most dr’s offices still require masks. And I think a lot of stores & restaurants have continued to offer pickup & takeout services that they might not have, pre-pandemic. But that’s about all I can think of. Masks & vaccine passports are not required (and you sure can tell by the number of people wearing masks…!), the plexiglass barriers in stores have mostly come down, lineup spacers have disappeared. But that’s about all I can think of.

As Loribeth said, most restrictions here have been dropped, other than at medical facilities. I’m going to have to make sure my vaccine passport is up to date for our South Africa trip later this year – the train company and the safari lodges require them. Must stock up on tests for that too.

That’s so interesting to me — our zoo is mostly outdoors, so there’s been very few restrictions in the past couple years. Our zoo is also absolutely tiny, although less sad since they’ve updated the exhibits to be more naturalistic and spacious. The red-tailed hawk in an aviary is just about the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.

I feel like overwhelmingly everything feels post-pandemic, even though clearly there’s a lot of pandemic still happening. It’s like everyone is plugging eyes and ears and Na-na-na-ing it away. Sigh.
