#Microblog Monday 429: Umbrellas of Love
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I recently learned about a fantastic group that shields kids entering LGBTQIA+ events called Parasol Patrol. You can volunteer in your area and show up with a rainbow umbrella to create a safe walkway for kids entering a building so they don’t see protesters outside. I started crying looking through the site because it’s unbelievable that we need something like this — that adults would scream things at kids. But then my feelings shifted to enormous gratitude that this exists.
You can volunteer or donate on the site or read more about the group via numerous news articles.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts connected to businesses or sponsored posts.

Oh my gosh… you’re right. It’s unbelievable that there’s a need for something like this — that adults would be so awful to KIDS. But this is the world we’re living in right now…! 🙁
It’s disgusting, isn’t it? That these groups are needed. But wonderful that they exist. It is so sad, when good people like this could be putting their efforts into something else, but shielding kids seems to be necessary. Especially when they’re shielding them from people who generally claim (incorrectly) to have morality on their side. Sigh.
I love that there are umbrellas of love. I hate that they have to exist. But how wonderful that loving people will shield others from ugliness and hate so they can be themselves.
I hate that this has to exist but oh how lovely that someone thought of this and allows these kids to feel protected.
What is wrong with people? Just let people be who they are. A person’s sense of self is no more weird to me than people who are willing to drink beer or coffee. (Which is to say that everyone is weird. Leave ’em alone.)
It’s upsetting that this is needed, those poor kids
