10 Years Since Google Reader

It has been ten years since Google Reader closed. Social media is often blamed for the decline in blogging, but I think closing Google Reader contributed to the mass exodus to Facebook updates. Make it hard to read blogs, and people will stop reading blogs. Alas.

I have been happy with Feedly for the last ten years — maybe even happier with Feedly than I ever was with Google Reader, despite all of my fears ten years ago when Google made their announcement.

The Verge had a retrospective on the feed reader: Its life and death.

Interesting article! I still miss Google Reader!! I used Bloglovin for many years, but the last few, the reliability was awful (I’ve written many posts complaining about it!) — so I bit the bullet, downloaded Feedly & paid for the premium service so that I could access more than 100 blogs on it. My blog reading time has been limited lately — too much else going on! — but so far, so good…!

Wow, I didn’t realize it had been so long! I also like Feedly but it was a hard transition. I don’t like change.

Oh wow I was shocked it’s been ten years.

Personally, I still blame social media. I remember trying to talk someone out of Twitter. (Actually several someones.) I feel vindicated.

Wow, ten years already? I use Feedly, but sporadically. I have my favourites bookmarked, but don’t always remember to check.
