Happy Birthday To Me

I entered a new decade. The last time it happened, I was yanked, kicking and screaming over the threshold. This time, the panic didn’t really begin until a few weeks beforehand, and it was more of a quiet panic. Like my body thought it was supposed to panic, so it stepped up and did its job, but it performed halfheartedly because it didn’t feel it deeply.

It is weird having a milestone birthday. There is nothing you can do with the day that is big enough, but you feel like you have to try.

We took the pressure off the day by planning something small for today and then scheduling a big trip later in the year. With two weeks of days on the trip, I figured I could choose one that seemed to be already going well and declare it my birthday day celebration.

So, I am eating cake and celebrating making it through another year and into a new decade. There’s a lot to celebrate.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! A new decade – that’s wonderful – a fresh start 🙂

I love the idea of going on a trip to celebrate a big birthday.

Happy birthday! I love this idea of celebrating with a trip later in the year and choosing one activity to be The Celebration. I may borrow this in 3 years when I hit my milestone.

Happy, happy birthday, Mel! 🙂 And have fun planning that trip! (I was determined I would spend my 60th birthday, in January 2021, on a tropical beach somewhere. Well, you know what happened to the world between January 2020 and 2021…! Maybe for 65??)

Yes, you should definitely choose a day – or something really special you want to do – and make that your birthday celebration on your trip. Or just name the whole trip as your birthday celebration. My (most recent – they come around awfully quickly!) milestone birthday was the year before I felt ready to travel again after covid, so the trip I had wanted to do was delayed by about 8 months. The whole thing was fabulous, and I didn’t name any one day as mine, and it didn’t feel like my birthday, but I knew I was there because of that milestone. As you will.

Still, your final paragraph sums it all up beautifully. Celebrating another year (or decade), with cake, sounds pretty wonderful to me. Woo hoo! Hip hip hooray! (Since I’ve wished you happy birthday elsewhere).

I am super happy that you’re entering a new decade! I love everything about this birthday celebration trip, especially how much the twins will enjoy your special birthday! They have the best mum!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Cake and a spread out celebration sounds lovely. I’m right behind you… I definitely feel like there was more angst about the last milestone than this one because biology. I’m so glad we can celebrate another trip around the sun for you!

Happy birthday! There is a lot to celebrate each decade milestone. Look how far you’ve come!

I’ve found birthdays become less intense, more mellow and easily spread out as time goes by.

I love your plan do it in your own time.

Hedging your bets seems like a good plan! Hope your birthday was great and the eventual celebration will be everything you hope for!
