#Microblog Monday 525: Tabs

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

Last month, I bookmarked or jotted down notes from open tabs in my phone’s browser. I wanted to bring it down to 100 tabs, though I only succeeded in bringing the open tab count closer to 150. It is currently back up at 236.

Scrolling back through open tabs is like an archaeological dig through my brain. There are the sneakers I saw a woman wearing when we picked up takeaway. (I made ChickieNob casually walk back and forth, trying to read the tag on the back.) And the bio for an artist who had a painting I liked in a gallery. And a list of plant-based fake meat products. And a recipe for Cornish pudding. If you go back far enough, you will find tabs for things I was thinking about at least 10 years ago. Things that were important enough to leave open all this time later.

I love scrolling back and seeing what was important years ago. They are snapshots of a moment in time, an hour of wondering.

Are you also doing #MicroblogMondays? Add your link below. The list will be open until Tuesday morning. Link to the post itself, not your blog URL. (Don’t know what that means? Please read the three rules on this post to understand the difference between a permalink to a post and a blog’s main URL.) Only personal blogs can be added to the list. I will remove any posts connected to businesses or sponsored posts.

I love the open tabs too, like from the holiday season or before taking a trip, thankful for how it all came together. I thought of you when I saw that there is a movie that wrapped in 2024 called Flavia, based on the books you had mentioned years ago. I read them on Kindle when one of my kids was little, and I will always feel grateful to you for the recommendation.

Maybe I’m taking this too literally (or maybe I’m just really, really old…?!) but how do you have tabs — constantly open — on your PHONE?? (On your laptop, maybe — I have 21 tabs with my most-used sites/pages that open automatically when I log on — and I currently have about 25 open — but on the phone??) Let alone 250+ (!!) of them?? Wouldn’t you lose them when you turn off your phone? (Or do you just never turn off your phone?)

I need open tabs when I’m working, and get mocked mercilessly for 24 or more… But 236 on your phone? Is such a thing possible? It must be, but how does it still work? I treat my screenshots like this on my phone, little clues into what I thought was worthwhile or funny or wanted to remember at different times. 236– still stuck on that! 🙃

I’m writing this on my iPad, which has 42 tabs open. I keep tabs open on my laptop when I’m working on or reading something on a theme, and have a lot of bookmarks for sites I visit regularly. My phone has 14 open tabs, and 76 inactive tabs that I didn’t realise I had until 2 minutes ago!
I like to clean things out after a while. Realise that certain things I thought were important no longer are. It feels good to clean them out, frankly.
