#Microblog Monday 506: Rabbit Hole Detectives

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

I found the Rabbit Hole Detectives podcast because the three podcasters have a book coming out in October that we’re ordering from Blackwell’s. I am not a podcast person and only listen to The Handsome Podcast, but I downloaded a few episodes and am completely hooked.

It’s Reverend Richard Coles (I adore his mystery books, too), Dr Cat Jarman, and Charles Spencer (as in Princess Diana’s brother). Each week, they go down the rabbit hole on three different topics and present their best fun fact for a competition. They make the most random topics super interesting.

#Microblog Monday 505: Productive Procrastination

To-do lists are difficult, seeing all of those tasks you need to do listed out. So I thought the triple list hack was brilliant.

The woman lists three things she needs to do each day: one annoying, one uncomfortable, and one painful. She then explains: “Having three of varying discomfort means I am more likely to do the lesser ones as a way to productively procrastinate on the bigger one.”

So she does the minimally annoying one (posting a letter) to get herself out of the more painful one (not eating sugar). She gets at least one thing accomplished.

#Microblog Monday 504: How Blue Is Your Blue?

I’ve seen a lot of people post this, so I finally tried it, and it was a fun exercise to discover if what you think is blue is the same as what other people think of as blue.

My result was 183, which will make more sense once you do the exercise and open the explanation in the About section. How blue is your blue?

#Microblog Monday 503: Happy/Unhappy

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

There are things that can’t make you happy if you have them but can make you unhappy if you don’t have them. For instance, food. If you are sad, being handed food will not make you happy. But if you are happy, being hungry and not having food will make you sad.

Or maybe unhappiness or sadness aren’t the correct terms. It can cause distress.

Not profound, but it helped me make sense of why it is impossible to make someone happy. The things that cause distress in their absence are all good things (food, water, shelter, comfortable temperatures, skills), and the things that cause happiness in their absence are all negative things (anger, hate, lack of safety). Contemplating how to generate happiness this morning.

#Microblog Monday 502: Frozen Fruit Summer

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

*******

We’ve labeled this frozen fruit summer. It started when Josh wanted chocolate-covered bananas. We bought a box from the freezer section but quickly moved to making them ourselves after we added up the cost of said box of frozen bananas. We ended each dinner for most of the summer with a chocolate-covered banana slice — perfection.

But then we expanded into frozen grapes due to an episode of The Handsome Podcast. Fortune Feimster mentioned frozen grapes, and I realized I had no clue how a frozen grape tasted. I don’t love regular grapes, but frozen grapes are one of the best things I’ve ever had.
