#Microblog Monday 491: Underwater Hotel

I have a new life goal: Stay in an underwater hotel.
Traveler put out a list of underwater hotels. Most start above ground and then move underwater, or they’re really aquarium-view hotels (as in, your window looks into an aquarium). I’ve fallen in love with all of the options in the Maldives. The first one is probably my favourite.

#Microblog Monday 490: Life Advice

I always click on life advice, figuring that it costs me 30 seconds to skim the list to see if anything jumps out, and this list grabbed me at the first point: “Don’t go to every fight you’re invited to.” Let’s just say that I saw the list on the perfect day to take that advice and use it.
While I’ll never aim to wake up before sunrise on a daily basis, I took #13 and #14 to heart.
What appealed to you on the list?

#Microblog Monday 489: Words or Pictures

Neil Kramer always makes me think. He recently had a public Facebook post about the power of words vs. pictures. He writes:
People never get offended by my photos, but if I use the wrong word or phrase, people go crazy. This is nothing surprising. If I hold up a photo of a fire in a crowded theater, no one will care. But if I yell “fire, all hell breaks loose. Words have the power.
It made me think about how I’ve certainly been emotionally impacted by an image shared in someone’s feed, but I’ve never unfollowed someone on social media due to an image. Words, yes, I remove people from my feed due to their words, but not because they posted a particular picture. Neil’s point is larger: we stop taking in the information in the image when we focus on accompanying words because the words are more powerful than the image.
It may not hold true in every case, but in a general sense, it’s interesting to consider.

#Microblog Monday 488: The Yuck in the Yum?

I have reservations about calling a person a yuck, but what do you do when a favourite talk show, podcast, or fill-in-the-blank for your favourite interview medium has on a guest that you don’t want to hear? I mean, I know the simple answer is to skip the episode, but I’m curious if people skip the episode. Or do they listen, watch, or read because there are often openings or closings that don’t contain the words and thoughts of the person who annoys/upsets/distresses you?
Do you skip the episode if you enjoy the host but feel annoyed/turned off by the guest??

#Microblog Monday 487: Meat-eating Pets
Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

Josh and I were reading an article about how to deter black bears, which Josh called my “how-to” guide so I could do all the things they said not to do. It said (so we will) not to leave out bird seed, chicken feed, dog food, or garbage. Maybe we’ll skip that last one.
But it occurred to me that if we got a dog, we would have a meat-eater in the house. We have had only vegetarian pets who eat the same things we eat. I mean, not all the same things, but I eat everything Beorn eats. Beorn and I often share an apple or vegetables, and he gets pieces of everything I’m chopping up as I cook dinner. He loves when I’m cooking because he knows he will get bits of food.
But if we had a dog, we would have a meat-eater in the house because a dog wouldn’t be happy with a diet of dry lettuce. It made me wonder how other vegetarians handle dog and cat food.
