Circle Time: The Show and Tell Weekly Thread

Show and Tell is wasted on elementary schoolers. Join several dozen bloggers weekly to show off an item, tell a story, and get the attention of the class. In other words, this is Show and Tell 2.0. Everyone is welcome to join, even if you have never posted before and just found out about Show and Tell for the first time today. So yank out a photo of the worst bridesmaid’s dress you ever wore and tell us the story; show off the homemade soup you cooked last night; or tell us all about the scarf you made for your first knitting project. Details on how to participate are located at the bottom of this post.

Let’s begin.

Today we held what Mr. Badger calls “the annual 5 Jews and a Catholic” tree trimming. This year, they were smarter and put up the lights BEFORE we arrived so they didn’t have two preschoolers screaming, “faster, Mr. Badger, faaaaaaaaaaaaster!” Apparently, screaming at someone while they are untangling yards and yards of lights is frazzling.

Possibly the best ornament is the one the ChickieNob made. It was rather phallic. Unfortunately, what you can’t see from this photo is that the tree branch is poking out of the paper directly above two circles and a bunch of squiggles that strongly resemble a scrotal sac.

The joy of Christmas–two Jews and a tree

Want to bring something to Show and Tell?
  • If you would like to join circle time and show something to the class, simply post each Saturday night (or earlier in the week or on Monday if you can’t do the weekend), hopefully including a picture if possible, and telling us about your item. It can be anything–a photo from a trip, a picture of the dress you bought this week, a random image from an old yearbook showing a person you miss. It doesn’t need to contain a picture if you can’t get a picture–you can simply tell a story about a single item. The list opens every Saturday night and closes on Tuesday night.
  • You must mention Show and Tell and include a link back to this post in your post so people can find the rest of the class. This spreads new readership around through the list. This is now required.
  • Label your post “Show and Tell” each week and then come back here and add the permalink for the post via the Mr. Linky feature (not your blog’s main url–use the permalink for your specific Show and Tell post).
  • Oh, and then the point is that you click through all of your classmates and see what they are showing this week. And everyone loves a good “ooooh” and “aaaah” and to be queen (or king) of the playground for five minutes so leave them a comment if you can.
  • Did you post a link and now it’s missing?: I reserve the right to delete any links that are not leading to a Show and Tell post or are the blogging equivalent of a spitball.

Let’s begin.

We have been on a massive lollipop making kick. By the end of the week, we could pop out 17 lollipops in a half hour (including the extensive clean-up ritual). The flavours in this cup are green apple, raspberry, and lime. They are all dye-free hence why it’s hard to tell the flavour based on colour.

Why are we making lollipops? I don’t really know. We are not eating nearly as many lollipops as we are making. We have been giving them away to friends to hang on their Christmas tree. We have been passing them out to pretty much everyone we see. And still, our entire kitchen counter is covered in bags of lollipops.

But they’re quite pretty.

We’re making pomegranate ones this week so be on the lookout for a giveaway quite soon.

Added: Ha–until Lori said it in the comments, I hadn’t thought of that. Hell yeah–Lollipop Goldstein should be making lollipops.

It was hard to wait. Christian people held out offers like crack throughout the fall. “I have a whole set of CDs if you want one,” they whispered. “One song can’t hurt you.”

But I held fast and with the exception of singing “O Holy Night” to myself in the shower every single morning, I did not listen to Christmas music until this weekend when 97.1 FM turned over the station to 24/7 Christmas music. Oh sweet relief.

Sharon Barren grooving to the Christmas music

Why yes, Josh and I are working on new Sharon Barren movies–glad you asked.

Let’s begin.

This is a tale of the wonderful Internets (you know, those tubes where people shoot messages). I am quite vocal in our love of the Wonder Pets. I have been known, let’s say, to Twitter about the episodes (as well as attempt to mention the word sex 100 times in a single day. Though not in the same Tweet. I mean, I am not looking for Wonder Pet Sex. Which would be furry or carry salmonella).

Kristin from the Fertile Infertile sent us 18 episodes of Wonder Pets and we have been Wonder Pets gluttons, devouring all the new episodes (well, new to us–prior to this point, we only had about 8 episodes on a well-worn tape). She has been raised to goddess status in our family. We speak about her with the reverence usually reserved for a religious figure.

The Wolvog was so excited that he was telling people this week and some boy told him that watching Wonder Pets is babyish (um…hello, little boy. Babyish? Perhaps you haven’t heard of the drinking game I concocted for watching Wonder Pets. Bottoms up every time one of them uses the word “serious”). The Wolvog was understandably hurt and asked me if I thought this was true. We had a long talk about following our bliss and doing what we enjoyed regardless of whatever anyone else thought. And then we curled up for a Wonder Pets episode, which is a manly and brave thing to do. That little boy can suck it–Linny rocks.

Let’s begin.

I am missing the beach this weekend–perhaps it is the rainy, damp weather. The first picture is a sandcastle that we made back in September at Rehoboth (we went to the beach for the hurricane because we’re brilliant).

The second picture is of the teacup ride at Funland. We went to the amusement park one night and the ChickieNob braved a toddler boat ride. She decided to ramp it up to the fire engine ride and discovered on the third loop that she was terrified. At first, I thought she was laughing but as she went by again, I could see that she was screaming. I begged the operator to shut-off the ride mid-cycle and I went to scoop her out of her seat.

After she calmed down, I told her that once upon a time, her grandfather had taken me to this very same amusement park to go on the teacup ride. And once the ride began, I became terrifed. He begged the operator to stop the ride and let me off. The ChickieNob and I trekked through the amusement park to face the teacup ride. It looked really small in retrospect. But I loved that I had a father who would get the operator to stop the ride.
