Circle Time: The Show and Tell Weekly Thread

Welcome back to Show and Tell. Everyone is welcome to join, even if you have never posted before and just found out about Show and Tell for the first time today. In fact, we hope you do go back to your blog and post your own Show and Tell item and then return with the link to your post. Details on how to participate are located at the bottom of this post.

Let’s begin.

This morning we went to something called Farm Tour Days which is a two-day period in our county where all of the local farms host a huge party with bouncey castles, hayrides, and 4-H displays. We went to the aforementioned farm where I once peed in the pumpkin patch (you better believe I had an impassioned discussion with the Wolvog about the importance of peeing before you leave the house). The ChickieNob was lured over to the vegetable art table where she constructed Arthur out of cucumbers, blueberries, green beans, and toothpicks. Oh, and carrot eyes.

As luck would have it, we fell deeply in love with Arthur; enough to kiss him and to hold him back from the demolition vegetable races. “Why would anyone want to speed Arthur down a hill in a roller skate?” the ChickieNob exclaimed, begging me to wrap up her vegetable love in a plastic bag and transport him to the steamy trunk of our car.

He lasted a few hours on our kitchen counter and was buried in our kitchen rubbish bin. Oh Arthur.

Want to bring something to Show and Tell?

  • If you would like to join circle time and show something to the class, simply post each Sunday (or earlier in the weekend or on Monday if you can’t do Sunday), hopefully including a picture if possible, and telling us about your item. It can be anything–a photo from a trip, a picture of the dress you bought this week, a random image from an old yearbook showing a person you miss. It doesn’t need to contain a picture if you can’t get a picture–you can simply tell a story about a single item.
  • Label your post “Show and Tell” each week and then come back here and add the permalink in the comments section below (make sure you don’t just comment that you participated: add a link to your blog in your comment so people can click over). I post a new Show and Tell post every Saturday night or Sunday. I usually move people up into the body of the post every few hours.
  • Oh, and then the point is that you click through all of your classmates and see what they are showing this week.
  • If you want it…
I’ve now placed a Show and Tell archive on the sidebar that will be updated each week in case you miss it. And click here for the icon code if you wish to have it for your blog. It links to the archives.

Let’s begin.

So I said I wasn’t going to post until tomorrow but then I was listening to Dooce and her foray into vegetarianism and it made me want to talk about this. We have had so much trouble eating in San Francisco. Isn’t that bizarre? The section of town we are staying in has a dearth of vegetarian options. The place we went to last night had literally one vegetarian thing on the menu. I know there are these great places in the city, but we missed them. And that makes me so sad. And I guess that is how the San Francisco bloggers are going to get me to drag my ass out here again. The best meal we ate in terms of choice came from the amazing food court near the Powell Street BART stop. Mmmm…grilled asparagus.

If you are seeking inspiration and want to join Show and Tell this week, tell me about your best meal this week.

Let’s begin.

Tomorrow is a friend’s wedding shower and I made the cake, working with fondant for the very first time.

I still need to brush off the excess confectioners sugar. The bottom tier of the cake is a seven layer cake, glazed with raspberry and filled with a milk chocolate buttercream. The top tier is a deep chocolate and espresso cake with raspberry glaze.

Turns out I didn’t need Duff after all.

Let’s begin.

A week or two ago, in the middle of a massive, gulping-while-crying meltdown, I wailed, “and I’ve never owned a business card.” It is simply just one of a long stream of things I would like and do not have. I have never had a job that warranted a business card (teaching just isn’t a business card-like profession) and while I still do not have a job that warrants a business card, I cannot help coveting them and what they mean.

Josh admitted that he could not fix many of my problems, but he could have business cards made. We hopped onto the computer and went through a few design choices and finally settled on the one below. It took a long time to decide what information to place on the card because…well…when it comes down to it, I still don’t have a job with an office that warrants a business card. Therefore, we were stretching a bit to find things to stick on the front.

I have crossed out my last name in the photograph (with so many spammers constantly goading me to change my penis size, it seemed circumspect to not pass out my last name here so the spam emails could be tailored to me any further), but this is the business card that I will have few chances in life to actually pass out to anyone. Perhaps, if we meet at BlogHer, you will walk away with one in your pocket.

In fact, we hope you do go back to your blog and post your own Show and Tell item and then return with the link to your post. Details on how to participate are located at the bottom of this post.

Let’s begin.

I never expected to be someone who had the Virgin Mary appear on a panini or saw Christ in a watermark under a bridge. Forget that I’m Jewish; I just don’t think I’m important enough to be chosen. I don’t think I even rate a visit from Nixon’s corpse. So imagine my surprise when I am drying off after a shower one day and I notice that an image of Chewbacca is clearly appearing on my floor.

What? You can’t see him? Fine, I’ll outline it for you. Take a gander below and then scroll back up to see the image in its pure state.

At first, I wasn’t positive if I was seeing Chewy. It could be a Yeti, for instance. Or Sasquatch. Or numerous other hairy beings. Our friends were over our house and I asked them to come upstairs and check it out since the guy is a huge Star Wars fanatic (yeah, Scooter–I’m talking about you!). Scooter immediately agreed. We had Chewy.

It’s not just Chewbacca though–if you notice, he is definitely wearing Darth Vadar’s cloak. What does this all mean? That Chewbacca was Luke Skywalker’s brother? That Chewy is really part of the Dark Side? It’s all a little too scary to contemplate.

Regardless, I am going to turn my bathroom into an exhibit and open it up to all Star Wars junkies. 50 cents to touch Chewbacca. And you can pee while you’re in there or rummage through our medicine cabinet. A pretty fair deal if I do say so myself.
